Shri NPV Ramasamy Udayar, born on September 19, 1936, in Rasipuram, Tamil Nadu, rose to prominence as an industrialist through his sharp business acumen, relentless dedication, and hard work. In the 1980s, while already an inspiring tycoon, Mr. Udayar felt a deep desire to contribute to the community. This led to the establishment of Sri Ramachandra Medical College (SRMC) in 1985, with permission from Tamil Nadu’s then-Chief Minister, Dr. M.G. Ramachandran. What began in a modest two-storey building in Valasaravakkam soon transformed into a world-class campus on 150 acres near Porur Lake. SRMC, now known as Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), sought a partnership with one of the world’s top medical schools to elevate its standards of excellence. In July 1997, Shri N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar formalized this collaboration by coordinating with Mr. Robert Crone, CEO of Harvard Medical International. What began with a student exchange program grew into a strong alliance, driving curriculum reforms and focusing on healthcare quality, safety, leadership, and faculty development. Having succeeded in traditional education, SRIHER is now expanding into online education, guided by Founder-Chancellor’s vision of staying aligned with the evolving demands and advancements.
